Specifications

Two Nero Loungers in excellent used condition. Unmarked, but probably 1970s repros. Tag inside cushion says Italy.

Le Corbusier is widely considered the most important Modernist chair designer in France. Born Charles-Edouard Jeanneret in 1887 in Switzerland, Le Corbusier had great interest in the visual arts at an early age. At age 23, he was an active designer in Berlin. Here he met the famed Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe; a fortuitous meeting that had vast impact on 20th century design.

As a spirited advocate of Modernism, he created a range of chairs that express his ideals with great sophistication. The Le Corbusier Nero Chaise Lounge is the best known and most successful. It was designed in 1928 for the furnishing of a villa in the Ville d' Avray and first available to the public at the Salon D' Automne in 1929.

The Nero has exposed structural elements with a sturdy frame made of Stainless Steel polished to a mirror finish. The steel base has a black matte finish and rubber gripping pads for easy and safe positioning of chaise in desired position. The surface is a soft high grade Aniline Protected Italian leather, which provides you comfort and long lasting quality. It glides along rollers to allow you to select the position most comfortable for each individual. Its sleek lines and sparkling curves definitely make a statement in any room. The Nero’s simple but amazing combination of form and function explain its unwaivering popularity for the past 90 years. The Nero is still in production by the Cassina company in Italy.

It is 33 inches high x 63 inches wide x 22.2 inches deep. The seat is 17 inches from the floor.

Our model is unmarked, so it may or may not be an authentic Cassina product. The pillow inside its leather case has a tag with “78” in it leading us to believe it is a 1978 model. Our model is quality built as demonstrated by the weight and condition of the chrome. Also, it is held together with 2 inch straps, as opposed to the “bungee” cords used on repro models.
