Galvanized Iron Pipes
Introduction
The British Standard Steel Tubes are produced to BS1387:1967, it is produced in three thickness class which known as Class A, Class B and Class C . Also available in black welded or hot dipped galvanised finish in 6 meter length.
Applications
For ordinary Conyeyance of steam, gas, air, water etc...
End Connection and End Protection
The Pipes have produced to two type of end connection :-
- Plain end square cut ( P/E )
- Threaded and Fixed with coupling ( T/C ) - Supplied screwed with taper threads to BS21 and fitted with one taper threaded malleable iron socket.
Identification Marking
Tubes are marked by colour bands about 50mm wide :-
| Class A ( Light) | Class B ( Medium ) | Class B ( Medium ) |
| Brown | Blue | Red |
Technical Specification, Wall Thickness and Dimension
| Materials | The tubes and steel sockets shall be manufactured from steel which shows, on analysis, not more than 0.006% of suiphur and not more than 0.006% of phosphorus. |
| Mechanical Properties | Tensile strength : Between 21 ton f/in2 ( 33 kg f/mm2 ) and 30 ton f/in2 ( 47 kg f /mm2 ). Elongation on a gauge length of 5,65/so: not less than 20%. |
| Permissible Variation In Wall Thickness | Light Welded Tubes - -8% + not limited Medium and Heavy Welded Tubes -10% + not limited |
| Hot Dipped Galvanizing | Shall pass the four dip copper sulphate test prescribed as BS1387:1967 specification. |
| Hydraulic Test Pressure | 700 Ibs /in2 ( 50kgf/cm2 ) |
| Bending Test | Performed on tube size 2 in and smaller, with the weld at 90% to the place of bending, Black tubes shall capable of being bent cold, without cracking through 1800 round a former having a radius equal to six times the outside diameter of the tube of the tube and galvanized tube through 900 round a former with a radius equal to eight times the outside diameter of the tube. |
| Flattening Test | Performed on the tube sizes over 2 in. using rings not less than 1-1/2 in. ( 38mm ) in kength cut from the ends of selected tubes. When such rings are flattened between parallel plates with the weld at 900 ( point of maximum bending ) no opening shall occur by fracture in a weld until the distance between the parallel plates is less than 75% of the original outside diameter of the tube and no cracks or breaks in the metal other than in a weld shall occur, until the said distance between the plates is less than 60% of the original outside diameter. |
